major international political issues
i want to major in either Political Science or international relations… will years of studying prepare me?

since i am not knowledgeable of all the issues the government deals with will school prepare me for a career in the field? where would i gain experience for a job that requires experience.

You definitely will need at least a bachelor’s degree. Take a few political science courses and a few in international relations before deciding on your major. You can certainly major in one and take the most relevant courses from the other.

Right now, start getting familiar with current events and issues by regularly reading a newspaper, watching the news or viewing news websites. Read a big city paper, not a neighborhood one. Every so often, read a Wall Street Journal to get the financial perspective on world events.

Do at least one internship during college in a government agency or at a job you’re interested in. That will give you some job experience. Also try for summer jobs in the field.

You may need grad school, but you’ll know more about your direction once you’re more familiar with the field and what kind of job/career you want.
