I would like to know the meaning of the word Luftmentsch?

I keep running into this word as I read political blogs and opinion pieces, and have a general understanding of what it means but would like to know where the word comes from and how it is specifically used. It seems to have some Hebrew origen, or at least be used by many Jewish people. Just curious. If anyone has any info. please share. I was not able to find it in any online dictionary, but it seems to be used in the same way in common speech to just be a made up word.

luftmensch

Yiddish, from German luft, air, and mensch, person.

[edit] Nounluftmensch (plural luftmenschen, or, less commonly, luftmensches)

One more concerned with airy intellectual pursuits than practical matters
My husband is such a luftmensch he missed our anniversary dinner because he was too busy reading his books!
McLean, Helen. “Marc of Distinction.” The Globe and Mail: Books. March 24, 2007, p.D6 (reviewing the book Marc Chagall by Jonathan Wilson)
“Chagall was a luftmensch, he says, a man of the air…”

Was the Marquis de Sade an Enlightenment thinker? In what ways?

The most infamous writer in the history of French literature, who occasionally has been hailed as “the freest spirit who has ever existed.” Marquis de Sade published erotic writings, that gave rise to the term sadism – enjoyment of cruelty, which first made it into a dictionary in 1834. His works have been seen as exploration of sexual and political freedom, and on the other hand he was a multiple rapist, torturer, and proto-murderer. In his ‘Idées sur les romans’ (1800) de Sade writes that the essence of novelistic representation lies in the writer’s incestuous relationship with nature. To be true to this relationship is to eschew all limitations, and exceed the bounds of convention and knowledge.

The enlightenment period referred to a societal shift towards science and reason. The belief that the natural world was ordered allowed for the discovery of ultimate truths uncovered through rational thought. Truth was the supreme goal and focussed on ‘rational and temporal realm’…

International Political Economy Issues

international political economy issues
Would would happen to the US economy if the dollar stopped being the world’s reserve currency overnight?

Shelves of Wal-marts going empty overnight? DJA dropping 50%? Mass panic?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bretton_Woods_system

“The liberal economic system required an accepted vehicle for investment, trade, and payments. Unlike national economies, however, the international economy lacks a central government that can issue currency and manage its use. In the past this problem had been solved through the gold standard, but the architects of Bretton Woods did not consider this option feasible for the postwar political economy. Instead, they set up a system of fixed exchange rates managed by a series of newly created international institutions using the U.S. dollar (which was a gold standard currency for central banks) as a reserve currency.”

If that happened there would no longer be a US economy.

From Central Asia to Kashmir

The famous Silk Road, which began to be used from the first century BC, not only did traders, immigrants and the Raiders of the armies, but also philosophers, thinkers and artistic talent with the knowledge of religious philosophies. This route has also conducted cultural influences and ideas through borders. Kashmir figured prominently in the cultural center of Asia map is in place in that famous for its rich culture and beauty of its arts and crafts. The author has maintained a close relationship with different parts of Central Asia since ancient times. Kashmiri Buddhist missionaries were the first to spread the Buddhist philosophy in territories of Central Asia through the Hindu Kush in Afghanistan, China and Tibet following a new religion that has its roots in these lands. Many scholars Buddhist land crossed deserts and mountains for their education in Kashmir. Consequently, the ancient art of Kashmir, which either sculpture or architecture, show many similarities in design, in the iconography and production skills with centers of excellence that exists outside of Kashmir at the time. The exchange of ideas Kashmir in a very high level in such productions and was known throughout the region for these artistic creations. These connections have been facilitated by political ties, alliances marital and employment Asian central institutions in Kashmir.
With the foundation of the sultanate in 1339, Kashmir has become the magnetic attraction missionaries to Muslims, Sufis, Saints and Ulema (Muslim theologians) from Central Asia, who have spread the message of Islam in the region. The Sultan himself a symbol of these introductions and these garments is considered excellent, beautiful and colorful. Silk was the adoption of new technologies when using brush and commercial weavers Silk weaving in Kashmir was attempted. Under the reign of Sultan Zain-ul-Abdin art, culture, art and literature flourished in Kashmir, especially the Bukhara and Samarkand. In addition to the many soft machines for weaving silk, wood carving, enameling, stone carving, stone polishing, so the bottle, cutting the window (turash tabadan ") calligraphy and binding, carpet and a number of other arts and crafts in the truth of the eye complexities flourished under the impact of Central Asia. The local population has started work on the original models of Iran and Central Asia, and in many cases, are experimenting with new models that have led to the evolution of new forms and movements. Introductions should be made fresh deep roots, even after the death of Zain-ul-Abdin, seventy years Mirza Haidar Dughlat documents to the glory of these trades in these terms: "Kashmir, it meets all the arts and crafts that are in most cities rare. Along Mavar-u-Nahr, Samarkand and Bukhara, but they are here you are in Kashmir, which are abundant. All this is due to Sultan Zain-ul-Abdin. Another boost to the handicrafts of Kashmir can take place in Central Asia, where nobles Mirza Haidar invaded Kashmir and subsequent domination of the decade policy of the country has contributed significantly to transfusion technological and cultural development of Central Asia to Kashmir. His personal view and patronage has given impetus to these industries and commerce, whose benefits were subsequently evaluated by the rulers who followed Chak. The Valley has already experienced its second cultural renaissance that the impact has lasted long enough for his illustrious nephew, Mirza (Jehangir) to appreciate the present different types of music instruments, new types of windows and doors, and has also made innovations in clothing and diet.
